Visitors & New Member Process

Go Therefore and Make Disciples

Matthew 28:16-20

Ann Fleischer

Parish Assistant for Outreach

It is our prayer and our mission that those who visit Peace be filled with God’s spirit and not leave our midst empty. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to participate in worship and fellowship events offered at Peace. If you are looking for a church home, we invite you into Jesus Christ and the caring community that bears His name.

FIRST TIME VISITORS:

+ Sunday Worship is at 8:15 a.m and 10:45 a.m.

+We have parking spaces reserved for visitors near the worship center and handicapped parking directly in front of the worship center.

+ As you enter the narthex, ushers will greet you and provide you with a worship bulletin. To the right is a corridor where you will find restrooms and to the left is a cry room.

+ Activity bags with items of interest for small children are available in the narthex.

+ The bulletin and the hymnal will provide you with everything you need to participate in worship but of course, we encourage you to ask those sitting near by or an usher for assistance as you need it.

+ When communion is celebrated, visitors are welcome to participate. We believe this meal is Christ truly present in the bread & wine for all who are baptized. Those who share this confession are welcome to dine at the Lord's Supper. Small children are invited to join their families at communion for a special blessing. White grape juice is provided at communion for those with special health considerations.

+ There are cards located in the pew racks for new visitors, students and members.  Please fill out one of these new member cards(blue) so that we can help you with more information about Peace and get to know you better.

+ Please introduce yourself to one of our pastors as you leave. You are very important and we want you to know what a privilege it is that you have chosen to worship with us.

+ Sunday School Classes are held at 9:30 a.m. Ask one of our ushers to direct you if you wish to join or to have your children visit one of our classes. Adult classes on different topics are taught throughout the year and drop-in visitors are always welcome.

LAY CALLING TEAM:

+ Our lay calling team goes out in groups of two immediately following the 10:45 worship service each Sunday morning to visit first time worshipers at Peace.

+ The call is VERY BRIEF  - about 5 minutes - conducted at the door unless they are invited in.

+ New Visitors are given our visitor packet of information and a personal invitation to worship with us again.

+If you are interested in becoming a lay caller, contact Ann Fleischer our Outreach Parish Assistant, 776-1776, bobann@txcyber.com

 NEW MEMBER PROCESS:

+ When you have made the decision to join Peace, contact either Ann Fleischer, our Outreach Parish Assistant or one of our pastors.

+ You will be invited to attend a new member class designed to introduce you to Peace, Lutheran theology and worship and other people of Peace. We have found this class critical to the future involvement in the life of the congregation by our members and so it is a key component of the process whether or not you are coming from a different church background, no church background or a Lutheran one. The sessions last about 8-10 weeks and the sessions are offered twice a year.

+ You will be assigned a sponsor from one of the households of our current membership to help get to know you, introduce you to the life of Peace and to help you with your questions.

+ You will be invited to a dinner with your sponsor at some time during your first year.

+ College Students may either choose to join Peace as the process is described though many do not wish to leave the membership of their home churches. Students are encouraged to consider associate membership which involves some orientation process but without having to transfer from home congregations.
